The Blurb:
The only woman who had power over notorious rake Robert Marlow was now walking away from him, again. He'd heard Sutton had died, and known Jane was free, but he'd always thought his desire would only be for revenge, not her. Yet here he was, unable to deny what he felt for her…what he’d never felt for any other woman before…
My Review:
The Passionate Love of a Rake is the second book in the Marlow Intrigues by Jane Lark. You don't necessarily have to read book one, The Illicit Love of a Courtesan, before reading this book. It stands alone pretty well, but if you're like me, you'll want some of the background story that is in book one. Like how and why Robert and Ellen get along so well. Plus, I like to read things in order.
Robert and Jane were the epitome of complicated. They each brought their own baggage to to story and they each blamed the other. However, neither of them stopped loving the other even through all the years and pain that passed between them. Watching them come back together made a truly beautiful story. There was a lot of chemistry, and they definitely had the steamy-ness factor, but there was also an innocence about their relationship which I didn't expect. Robert has layers. He kept this cool, collected, player attitude on the outside, but I loved seeing his vulnerability on the inside. The Passionate Love of a Rake along with The Illicit Love of a Courtesan portray some strong lead female characters that don't always follow the norms of their society and make for some terrific stories. I'm a fan of this author. Her writing is saucy, but classy. Jane Lark is like a naughty little Jane Austen.
The ARC of The Passionate Love of a Rake by Jane Lark was provided to me by the author for review. The opinions are my own.
Check out my reviews of a few of Jane Lark's other books:
Jane is a writer of authentic, passionate and emotional love stories.
She began her first historical novel at sixteen, but a life full of adversity derailed her as she lives with the restrictions of Ankylosing Spondylitis.
When she finally completed a novel it was because she was determined not to reach forty still saying, I want to write a book.
Now Jane is writing both Regency and New Adult novels and she is thrilled to be giving her characters life in others’ imaginations at last.
Jane is also a Chartered Member of the Institute of Personnel and Development, and uses her knowledge of people to bring her characters to life.
‘Basically I love history and I’m a sucker for a love story. I love the feeling of falling in love; it’s wonderful being able to do it time and time again in fiction, and my understanding of people helps me write the really intense relationships I enjoy developing. I like writing characters who will capture your attention from the moment you open my book.’
Jane is a member of the Society of Authors, the Romance writers of America, Romance Novelists Society and the Historical Novelists Society
