A demigod who can kill with a touch. It's an ability that must be kept secret, even from those trusted most.
Finding out that she was a witch was strange enough, but now Nicole must face the realization that she has the rare power to kill with just a touch. No one can know her secret -- not even Blake, who she's had undeniable chemistry with since first moving to town.
Now Nicole, Blake, and the three others with elemental powers must stop a series of monsters that they previously believed to be dead from rising once again and destroying the mortal world. The creatures they face on this journey will be more dangerous than anything they've encountered yet. Will they all survive the quest? And how long will it be until Nicole is forced to use her ability to kill in front of everyone, revealing the true darkness of her powers?
Find out in The Blood of the Hydra, and join the Elementals on their quest to save the world -- or die trying.
The Blood of the Hydra is the second book in The Elementals series by Michelle Madow. The characters have been training, they know each other better now, and they are coming together as a team. This has been a process, but I like seeing them work together. We also get to meet some new characters on their journey. I love how this series includes Greek Mythology. I think I said that in my review of the first book, but it's also reminding me of aspects of Greek Mythology that I'd forgotten about like, Scylla and Charybdis and the meaning behind them. Oh and guess what? Blake is manning up! *wink* I know I've said in the past that I'm not a fan of books with witches. There have been a few exceptions. This series is one of those exceptions, because it's not in your face with all the witchy-ness. Most of the time, I forget that's what they are.

Top Five sources I used while researching Elementals.Wikipedia. I know that teachers always said not to use Wikipedia for research. But… it’s just full of so much information! And it’s so easy to read and navigate!
The Odyssey. I kept my copy of The Odyssey by my side while writing Elementals 2: The Blood of the Hydra. The journey that the Elementals go on parallels parts of Odysseus’s journey, so it was great to have the source material nearby.
Encyclopedia Mythica. They have great articles on mythology!
Theoi Greek Mythology. Another great site where you can learn about mythology. This site is where I first learned about Lampetia, one of Helios’s daughters, and from there I did further research to learn about her and her job on the island.
Google Image Search. I use this whenever I’m trying to figure out what I want a character to look like! I’ll usually take the parts I like from different representations of the creatures and combine them to create my ideal version.
She grew up in Baltimore, and now lives in Boca Raton, Florida, where she writes books for young adults. Some of her favorite things are: reading, pizza, traveling, shopping, time travel, Broadway musicals, and spending time with friends and family. Michelle went on a cross-country road trip from Florida to California and back to promote her books and to encourage high school students to embrace reading and writing. Someday, she hopes to travel the world for a year on a cruise ship.
