Ashes is the second installment in the Arson Series by Estevan Vega. Arson and Emery wake up to find themselves in Salvation Asylum where they are experimented on mercilessly. Arson is having nightmares, so real he can't tell reality from fantasy. Meanwhile, Emery befriends a mysterious boy named Adam through her cell door who claims he will break her out of the Asylum. Neither Arson nor Emery know where the other is or even if they are alive. Though they are apart, they fight for survival both in reality and in their nightmares.
Ashes will introduce you to new characters and unimaginable adventure. From the first few pages, you will be immersed in Arson's world as you learn about his past and speculate what it could mean for his future. Just like book one, the story is told through the eyes of many of the characters. There was a character or two whose perspective didn't really add much to the story for me, but I did enjoy seeing things unfold through the different point of views. The changing perspectives and unexpected actions of each character will keep you turning the pages as you try to figure out their true motives. This is a series that keeps you guessing. I love when a book keeps you thinking long after you have finished reading it. It has been interesting watching this series morph from what I though was a Paranormal Romance to more of a Psychological Thriller. It is in a genre all its own.
Estevan Vega is a truly gifted writer. The way he weaves a story together is unique and engaging. I look forward to future writings from this young, talented author.
