The Blurb:
When plunged into a world of spies, agents and espionage during the Peninsula wars, Honor, Lady Beaumont, flees for her life when the French capture her husband at Salamanca, and relies on his batman to arrange her safe passage back to England.Viscount Charles Vidal is ordered by Robert Dumas, the First Lord of the Admiralty, to travel to Spain and escort the only woman he’s ever loved, Lord Devlin Beaumont’s widow back home before the French discover her whereabouts.
Their journey is fraught by danger, least of all knowing whether they are surrounded by friends or foe. Will they survive long enough to explore the possibility of a future together or will whispers of treason be enough to see Honor dispatched to Tyburn first?
My Review:
Vidal's Honor by Sherry Gloag was a book full of mystery, adventure and deception with a healthy dose of romance thrown in for good measure. There was a lot going on in the details of this book. A lot! There were many characters who each had their own story and many plot twists revolving around them. Lady Beaumont was an amazing character, and while reading, I really felt invested in her story. At times, I got a little lost about what was going on because just when I thought I had a grip on something in particular, it would change and might even change again. I didn't know who to trust right up to the very end, and I still question some of the people. It's one of those books that almost needs to be read a second time to make sure you didn't miss something. I can't imagine the preparation and time that went into writing this book. The author must have an amazing mind.
Vidal's Honor by Sherry Gloag was provided to me by the publisher for review. The opinions are my own.
Sherry Gloag lives in the beautiful East Anglian countryside in the UK after spending her childhood in Scotland followed by many years in the Midland of England.
Although she's written over the years, in 2006 life made time for her to indulge her passion for writing and for her characters to let loose with their new found freedom.
Her debut novel, The Brat, deals with love in all it's aspects, and how her characters grow from their experiences.
Her second novel Duty Calls, deals with the consquences of her heroine living with selective amnesia, especially when her daughter's father re-enters her life.
The Wrong Target take a 'tongue-in-cheek' look at Cupid's victims when his arrow hits The Wrong Target. Sherry is blessed to have The Wrong target included in eTreasure Valentine anthology of 2010 and shares space with a host of awesome authors.
His Chosen Bride, the second in a four book series about the Gasquet Princes, also published by Atsraea Press. For more details visit her website at http://www.sherrygloag.com
