Tour! A Review of Starlet's Web by Carla J. Hanna

Starlet's Web (The Starlet #1) by Carla J. Hanna
Genre: Young Adult (Paranormal/Fantasy Romance)
Date Published: June 1, 2010
Publisher: Self

Love. Lies. Acting. A novel about celebrity influence & teens in Hollywood. What makes a star shine? Humility empowers the spirit. Sometimes.

Discover the Starlet Series for new adult & college readers and uncover the life of a talented actress caught in Hollywood's web of lies.

I'm actress Liana Marie Michael. I won an Oscar at 17 but whatever. Celebrity is what it is: marketing a product. I'm part of a tight-knit group. I keep to myself and don't complain about my life. I've been happy until lately.

Evan dumping me leveled me. Matthew shocked me. I knew he couldn't hurt me with my bodyguard so near, but his eyes...so I have trust issues. Dating super-hot Byron didn't help clear the confusion either. I'm torn between going to church on Sunday and making a living from pop culture.

But experience builds perspective. My days of shutting up needed to end. First, I told Manuel. Then I told my mom. It turned out awesome until I learned the truth.

Now I'm screwed. Totally. Let's face it: Hollywood's web entangles everyone.

Starlet's Web is the first book in the Starlet series by Carla J. Hanna. Liana is  child star who's now almost eighteen and reaching super stardom. I never felt connected to her character. She was very flighty and inconsistent. Maybe that was on purpose to show the confusion of growing up in Hollywood, but it made her hard to relate to. There wasn't a single friend/boyfriend of hers that I trust or was rooting for. I feel like they all have ulterior motives. I'm not sure there's anyone in her life that I liked, family included. It seems to be a lonely existence. The overall story was entertaining. It broke off at times to describe things in detail that I didn't need descriptions of. SAG, for example. I know what it is. If I didn't, I could Google it. I would like to know what happens next, but I'm afraid it's going to be a sad ending when the series is all said and done, so that makes me leery. Starlet's Web is a coming of age story... Hollywood style.

  1. Thank you for reading Starlet's Web. Perhaps teens will think twice about wanting to be a movie star. It's a tough life and Hollywood beauty is impossible.
