Rebel Belle (Rebel Belle #1) by Rachel Hawkins
Genre: Young Adult (Paranormal/Fantasy Romance)
Date Published: April 8, 2014
Publisher: Putnam Juvenile

Harper Price, peerless Southern belle, was born ready for a Homecoming tiara. But after a strange run-in at the dance imbues her with incredible abilities, Harper's destiny takes a turn for the seriously weird. She becomes a Paladin, one of an ancient line of guardians with agility, super strength and lethal fighting instincts.

Just when life can't get any more disastrously crazy, Harper finds out who she's charged to protect: David Stark, school reporter, subject of a mysterious prophecy and possibly Harper's least favorite person. But things get complicated when Harper starts falling for him—and discovers that David's own fate could very well be to destroy Earth.

With snappy banter, cotillion dresses, non-stop action and a touch of magic, this new young adult series from bestseller Rachel Hawkins is going to make y'all beg for more.

Rebel Belle is the first book in the Rebel Belle Series by Rachel Hawkins. This book was so much fun to read. I loved, Harper, the main character. She reminded me of a Southern Buffy (from the movie, not the TV show), only she's fighting something other than vampires. In the beginning she's all self absorbed and worried about her image, accomplishments, friends, and the Cotillion. She's very much inside her own little world. After the dance incident, she turns kick butt, but sill keeps her fashion sense... like Buffy. She's snarky and sarcastic, and her inner thoughts are fun before and after the dance. I love the bantering and sarcasm between her and David. Of course, I pretty much loved David from the start too. He's a hot guy in nerd guy clothing, plus a great sense of humor. His personality with Harper's was seriously entertaining. Not to mention the action and everything happening to and around them. This is a book that had me hooked from the start. I don't know how I didn't find this trilogy sooner.

Check out my review of the next book in this trilogy!
