Rachel catches the same commuter train every morning. She knows it will wait at the same signal each time, overlooking a row of back gardens. She’s even started to feel like she knows the people who live in one of the houses. ‘Jess and Jason’, she calls them. Their life – as she sees it – is perfect. If only Rachel could be that happy.
And then she sees something shocking. It’s only a minute until the train moves on, but it’s enough.
Now everything’s changed. Now Rachel has a chance to become a part of the lives she’s only watched from afar.
Now they’ll see; she’s much more than just the girl on the train…
The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins was not what I expected. I really didn't enjoy any of these characters. They were horrible examples of humanity. I suspected every single one of them as a murderer, and I think any one of them could have a murderer in them. So, while I didn't know exactly who the real killer was, it wasn't a surprise either. If that makes any sense. It was told from many different perspectives, and that gave it a pretty strong Gone Girl feel.
With all that being said, the story kept my attention pretty well. I may have been furious at the characters most of the time, but it still kept me reading. Maybe I was hoping a character or two would have some kind of life changing epiphany and want to be a better person or something. I don't know. Overall, I was very disappointed. It just wasn't for me.
