Book Review: A Brit on the Side by Brenda St. John Brown

A Brit on the Side (Castle Calder #1) by Brenda St. John Brown
Genre: New Adult Fiction (Contemporary Romance)
Date Published: August 3, 2016
Publisher: Self

I’m living within kissing distance of my best friend's brother for the entire summer, and he’s as sweet and sexy as I remember. Unfortunately, I also remember we had the best sex of my life in short-term parking. And the kitchen counter. Judging by the way he kisses me, he remembers too.

Clearly, the best solution is:
a)Avoid him at all costs.
b) Sneak into his room and bring a little Atlanta heat to the UK.
c) Fall for him. Hard.

I’m not going to choose C. Almost definitely.

A Brit on the Side is the first book in the Castle Calder series by Brenda St. John Brown. This was a fun and cute romance. Bea is a likable character who most women can relate to in many ways. She’s real, and has some pretty significant character growth within this story. Jasper was pet adorable too, and I like that they have this history that keeps things so awkward. The side characters were fun additions too. I haven’t looked ahead yet, but I hope they’ve gotten their own books.

Hi. I'm Brenda.  I'm a displaced New Yorker living in the UK. I lived in London for almost six years, but now I'm living in The North, in a tiny English village. We used to have sheep in our backyard! (Sheep!!)  Now we have a new housing development, so I mostly avoid looking out the kitchen window.

My novels are unabashedly romantic and run the gamut from angsty feels to make-you-smile swoons. Hitting the USA Today bestseller list has been the highlight of my career so far because - gah - #authorgoals! When I'm not reading or writing, I'm hanging out with The Boy, talking about random things and being overly strict about electronics.

I like running and Doritos, not necessarily in that order. I also like libraries, old churches and Paris. One day I'm going to write a novel set in Paris, which will necessitate lots of trips for "research."
